LINCOLN – Two visitors to Lincoln were injured when the car in which they were riding went off Route 6 into the woods late Thursday.
The two men were traveling east of Center Pond Drive when their 2001 Chevrolet Impala went off the road, hitting several trees, police Officer Chad Chubbuck said Friday.
When police and firefighters arrived, the two men said they weren’t driving the vehicle and claimed a third person was. Firefighters used heat-sensing cameras to scan the woods but were unable to find a third person, said Police Chief William Flagg.
Firefighters searched for about an hour for a possible third person.
Justin Heacock, 23, of Glenburn and Michael Charles, 23, of Middletown, Va., suffered head and torso injuries and were taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln shortly after the accident was reported about 8:45 p.m.,
Charles, who had the more serious injuries, was transferred by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, was treated, then released, a hospital spokeswoman said. Heacock also was treated, then released, a PVH spokeswoman said.
Both men were known to Lincoln police as staying frequently in the Lincoln area, Flagg said. Neither man has been charged.
The police investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding the accident or anything leading up to it is asked to call police at 794-8455.
