Police make progress in Houlton break-in

HOULTON – Investigators say they are making headway in a case in which some $15,000 was taken during a break-in at a grocery store.

Police Lt. Daniel Pelletier said investigators have leads in the Nov. 9 break-in at Andy’s IGA on North Street.

Police have theorized that sometime between Nov. 9 and the early morning hours of Nov. 10, one or more suspects used a torch to cut an entry into the overhead loading dock door of the store.

After entering the building, they used the torch to burn through the safe door.

The perpetrators grabbed approximately $15,000 in cash, a number of cigarettes and the store’s video surveillance system before fleeing the building.

The burglary was discovered after an employee arrived at the IGA just before 5:30 a.m.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Police Department at 532-2287. Or they may turn in information using the department’s anonymous tip line at 694-3545.

Detective Carolyn Crandall and Sgt. Eric Crouse are heading up the investigation.
