Choice leads Colby to crown

WATERVILLE – Adam Choice scored 28 points to lead Colby College by Babson College 67-47 in the men’s basketball final of the Colby Invitational Saturday.

Thomas defeated UMaine-Augusta in the consolation 109-70.

In the championship game, Artie Cutrone added 15 points for Colby.

In the consolation game, Michael Burchill scored 20 points for Thomas. Deon Cheers led UM-Augusta with 24 points. James Ayotte scored 15 points.

In Saturday’s tourney game, Hesser defeated EMCC 98-57.

EMCC was led by Knowles’ 19 points. Rogan Rowe had 11 points and James Doe chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

St. Joseph’s wins tournament

At Standish, Carolyn Freeman totaled 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals to lead Saint Joseph’s College past Green Mountain College to win the Merry Monk Classic Saturday. The University of Maine at Presque Isle defeated the College of St. Joseph in the consolation game 89-57.

In the championship game, Allison Miner had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Monks.

In the consolation game, Erica Davis had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead UM-Presque Isle.

Laura Veharanta, Jean O’Neill, Brittany Simpson and Arianna Riganc scored for 9-6-2 Providence. Genevieve Lacasse turned away 10 of 11 shots.

Jenna Ouellette scored at 17:28 in the second period with assists from Lexie Hoffmeyer and Jessica Bond for 3-13-1 Maine. Genevieve Turgeon stopped 27 of 31 shots.
