KITTERY – Transportation officials from Maine and New Hampshire want to study whether it makes more sense to install one new bridge between the two states rather than keep fixing the two that exist now.

Officials from both states met last week to discuss upgrades needed for the Memorial and Sarah Mildred Long bridges that connect Portsmouth, N.H., to Kittery.

They agreed that a comprehensive study is needed to assess the options, including removing both lift bridges and replacing them with a new high-level bridge. If approved, the study would start this spring and be completed a year later.
