PRESQUE ISLE – A Presque Isle man who allegedly set fire to a home on Easton Road was arrested and charged on Friday afternoon with arson.

Robert Lapointe, 62, has been arraigned but was unable to make bail as of Saturday afternoon.

Investigators said Lapointe was living at the Easton Road home owned by Kim Becker, 51, when the fire was set on Nov. 20.

Lapointe was found near the home in a vehicle soon after the fire was reported. He had self-inflicted injuries. Investigators would not say what type of injuries LaPointe suffered.

Investigators said they found evidence that the fire was set intentionally.

Lapointe was taken by ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center and then to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He remained in the hospital for several days.

The second floor of the dwelling was destroyed in the fire.

Becker was at work at the time of the fire.
