WASHINGTON – Sen. Olympia Snowe renewed her call for a new federal economic stimulus package after a government report last week that the nation lost more than half a million jobs last month.
The Labor Department said Friday that employers cut 530,000 jobs in November, the largest one-month drop since 1974. Unemployment now stands at 6.7 percent.
The Maine Republican said Congress should enact legislation that will create jobs, reduce the rate of home foreclosures and help the unemployed.
