BANGOR – A Mexican man arrested last month in Addison by Washington County sheriff’s deputies for domestic violence assault has been charged in federal court with violating immigration law.

Mario Sanchez-Rodriguez, 23, was charged Thursday in U.S. District Court with re-entry after deportation. He is being held without bail pending resolution of his case.

Sanchez-Rodriguez was removed from the country 14 months ago, according to court documents. He returned illegally in March through Arizona to visit his wife and child in Maine.

If convicted, he faces up to two years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also is facing domestic assault charges in Washington County. The sentences most likely would be served concurrently.

In unrelated cases, two of the three Guatemalan men apprehended in September at a Presque Isle motel on immigration charges were sentenced this week in U.S. District Court to time served.

Jose Fernando Jacinto-Morales, 46, was sentenced Friday to 91 days in jail for being found in the U.S. after having been ordered deported.

Angel Mario Guzman-Reyes, 23, of Guatemala was sentenced Monday to 87 days in jail for the use of false identification documents.

A third man, Juan Teletor-Cortez, 28, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 19 in federal court on a charge of being in the U.S after having been ordered deported.

The three men were arrested on Sept. 6 after one of them was stopped by the Maine State Police on a traffic violation. Court documents did not identify that man by name, but the others were found when U.S. Immigration and Customs officials, who took over the investigation from state police, went with him to the motel to retrieve his belongings.

According to court documents, the men told agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that they had been working at a wood processing plant in Easton.

All of the men are expected to be turned over to immigration officials for deportation before the end of the year.

In an unrelated immigration case, a Mexican man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 months in prison for illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions.

Rogelio Figueroa-Figueroa, 22, was apprehended in July working at a dairy farm in Clinton. When federal agents searched his residence, they found he was in possession of a rifle and two boxes of ammunition.

After completing his sentence, Figueroa-Figueroa will be turned over to immigration officials for deportation.
