It was broad daylight when someone broke into a Brewer residence last month and took two firearms, Brewer Police Department Capt. Jason Moffitt said Monday.

No one was home at the Broadlawn Drive residence when the break-in occurred on Nov. 17. The suspect or suspects went through the home and took a number of items, including the two handguns, he said.

The case is still under investigation, and no one has been charged.

Theft of a firearm is a Class A felony charge that carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison. Anyone who was in the area on Nov. 17 or who might have information about the crime is asked to call Brewer police at 989-7003. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

An investigation into the Halloween night robbery of the Family Dollar store in Brewer led police to two men involved in a rash of car burglaries and other thefts dating back several months, Capt. Jason Moffitt of the Brewer Police Department said Monday.

Christopher Cawley, 19, and Logan Clifford, 18, of Brewer were charged with felony theft last week in relation to the motor vehicle burglaries, Moffitt said.

“In tracking down leads” for the robbery, police investigators “came up with additional evidence” related to the car burglaries and thefts, which led police to Cawley and Clifford, Moffitt said.

Police arrested Charles Dion, 20, of Glenburn and Jesse Hatch, 19, of Eddington in November for armed robbery, and charged Jason Goodin, 19, of Holden and Raeleigh Hill, 18, of Eddington, who did not enter the store, with robbery in connection with the Halloween night holdup.

In addition to the armed robbery, Dion faces charges related to other burglaries, car burglaries and vehicle thefts dating back to last May, Moffitt said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
