PORTLAND – Maine’s largest city is launching a winter festival that aims to promote health and fitness during one of the coldest months of the year.
Portland organizers said WinteRush will run Feb. 6-15 and will feature a range of activities and demonstrations including ice skating, skiing, snowball fights, pickup hockey games, contests and snow sculptures across the city.
To cap off the event, Sunday River and Sugarloaf ski resorts will build a snow-covered hill in Portland’s Monument Square where people can ski and snowboard.
Portland Mayor Jill Duson said WinteRush is an opportunity for families to get active while having fun in the dead of winter.
