HAMPTON, N.H. – Residents of 17 New Hampshire and Maine towns received their Social Security checks a day late.
The U.S. Postal Service said about 10 trays of Social Security checks were misplaced but were found Wednesday night and delivered Thursday.
The affected towns were in southern New Hampshire and southern Maine with ZIP codes beginning with 038 and 039.
Though close to 90 percent of Social Security recipients in New Hampshire receive payments through direct deposit and weren’t affected by the delay, government officials said they received a number of calls about the late checks.
