RUMFORD – Police say a 7-year-old Rumford boy is in Maine Medical Center with a serious head wound after he was shot with a BB fired from a pump-action air rifle.

The Maine Public Safety Department says Daniel Johnson was shot Monday night in a bedroom of his Pine Street home by a family member who is a juvenile.

Daniel’s parents, Daniel and Darcy Johnson, drove him to a local hospital and he was then flown by helicopter to Portland.

State and Rumford police are investigating the shooting and there has been no decision on whether any charges will be filed against the juvenile who fired the shot.
