Esancy, Wildcats claw past Shires

HOULTON – Caitlyn Esancy connected for a game-high 22 points as Presque Isle steamrolled to a 14-2 first-quarter lead en route to a 60-39 schoolgirl basketball victory over Houlton Tuesday.

Sarah Porter scored 14 points for the Wildcats and Kayla Legassie had 10 points.

Vanessa Sanderson scored 12 points to lead Houlton. Lainey Herring added eight points and 10 rebounds.

At Presque Isle, Brennan Shaw’s goal with five minutes left in regulation tied the score for Presque Isle and it stayed that way through overtime.

Josh Buck had a goal and assist, Steve Ford a goal and Isaac Lajoie an assist for 0-1-1 Presque Isle. Nic Davis saved 36 of 39 shots.

Lowell Matthews, Craig Buxton and Morgan Hill recorded goals for 0-1-1 Houlton-Hodgdon. Cody Briggs had an assist; Malik Abouleish saved 40 of 43 shots.
