Dunn goal paces Crusaders past Bangor

BANGOR – Ali Dunn scored the game-winning goal off an Erika Getchell assist with 11 minutes left to lead John Bapst to a 2-1 high school field hockey win over Bangor on Wednesday afternoon.

Megan Tilton scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the game for the 7-1-1 Crusaders of Bangor and Meredith Atkinson made six saves on 10 shots.

Nicole Bureau scored six minutes into the second half on a penalty corner for 2-7 Bangor. Sarah Hanselman and Sarah Frisk combined to stop 11 of 15 shots.

JV: John Bapst 2-1

Dexter 3, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Anita Grant scored an unassisted goal in the first half to help lead Dexter to the victory.

Kristina Temple and Nicci Burton each added second-half goals for the 6-2-1 Tigers. Cristy McGowen stopped all 28 shots.

Ashley Smith made 16 saves on 19 shots for 5-5 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: Foxcroft 2-1

Old Town 3, Hermon 2

At Old Town, Amanda Littlefield scored the game-winning goal with 4:23 left in the second half to give Old Town the victory.

Amanda Littlefield also scored the first goal on a Kayleigh Bray assist for 2-8 Old Town and Sulva Bray scored the other goal in the second half. Karey Littlefield made eight saves on 11 shots.

Kate Campbell and Emily Bell each scored a goal for 1-7 Hermon. Megan McCready stopped seven of 10 shots.

JV: Old Town 2-0

Boys soccer

Maranacook 2, MCI 0

At Pittsfield, Mitch Riley scored a goal halfway through the first half to give Maranacook the win.

Andrew Mack added a goal five minutes into the second half for 9-0-1 Maranacook and Tom Martinelli stopped seven of nine shots.

Tristan Goewey made three saves on 10 shots for 5-5 Maine Central Institute.

JV: 0-0

Girls soccer

Bucksport 2, Ellsworth 0

At Bucksport, Lindsey Gordon scored a goal in each half to power the Golden Bucks by the Eagles.

Brittni Adams assisted on the first goal and Gordon converted the second off a Terren Hall throw-in for the 5-1-1 Bucks. Katie Hurd made three saves on five shots.

For 3-4-2 Ellsworth, Catie Cravens made three saves on 10 shots.

John Bapst 6, MDI 0

At Mount Desert, Sarah Lammert and Evelyn Sharkey each scored two goals to help push John Bapst of Bangor to the win.

Ashley Sanford and Hayley Cutri both scored a goal for 6-1-1 John Bapst. Caroline Cassling made one save on three shots.

Asia Ross stopped eight of 29 shots for 0-5-4 Mount Desert Island.

Penquis 6, Dexter 1

At Milo, Erin Beasley scored two goals and assisted another to help lead Penquis to the win.

Kate Hamlin scored a goal and had three assists for 1-7-1 Penquis. Sam Ellis and Jessica Kahl each added a goal and Liza Comeau had an assist. Michelle Mulherin made no saves on three shots.

Sabrina Cote scored a second-half goal for 3-5 Dexter and Ashley Richardson made nine saves on 21 shots.

PVHS 4, Central 0

At Howland, Tiffany Brown scored two goals to help the Penobscot Valley Howlers improve to 8-1.

Kacy Foster added a goal and an assist for the Howlers and Kacey Plourde chipped in with a goal. Ashley Dawson recorded an assist and Jen Plourde made five saves on 11 shots.

For 3-4-1 Central of Corinth, Nicole Daniel made 14 saves on 31 shots.

PCHS 3, Schenck 2 (2OT)

At Guilford, Christine Davis slotted home Whitney Sinclair’s pass with 40 seconds left in the second overtime to give Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford its win .

Sinclair and Stephanie Taylor scored the other goals for 5-2-1 PCHS and Davis had an assist. Jill Martell made 20 saves.

Courtney McLeod and Cortney McLaughlin had a goal and an assist apiece for 4-5-1 Schenck of East Millinocket.

McLeod’s goal with 10 minutes left forced overtime.

Robin Larlee made 27 stops.
