Ponies rally in fourth to nip Lynx

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Foxcroft Academy rallied from a two-touchdown deficit with 3:02 remaining to nip Mattanawcook Academy 28-27 in high school football action Friday night.

James McPhee, who had opened the scoring with a 46-yard run in the first quarter, ran the ball in from 2 yards out with 3:02 remaining after the ball was snapped over the MA punter’s head and downed at the 2.

On the next series, FA’s Jon Catell returned an interception about 40 yards to the 11. Shayne Croan then ran it in. Bobby Gilbert’s two-point rush gave the Ponies the lead with 1:54 left.

The Lynx of Lincoln missed a 30-yard field goal try as time expired.

Catell also caught a 56-yard TD pass from Logan Forrest. McPhee finished with eight carries for 82 yards, and Gilbert picked up 68 yards on 18 carries. Forrest was 2 for 3 passing for 73 yards and a TD.

For the Lynx, Duncan Markie had touchdown runs of 4 and 1 yards sandwiched around a Dylan Hanscom 1-yard TD run. D.J. Robinson’s 25-yard TD reception at the end of the third quarter gave MA a 27-14 lead.

Markie had 145 yards on 21 carries, Mackenzie Haines added 18 carries for 96 yards, and Hanscom was 8 for 17 for 91 yards, but he was intercepted three times.

At Millinocket, Luke St. Pierre ran 1 yard for a touchdown and threw 10 yards for another to lead Maranacook of Readfield to the win.

Sean Putnam-Labbe caught the 10-yard pass from St. Pierre in the third quarter. Corey Allen ran 77 yards on 23 carries, and Dan Burke blocked a punt and had a fumble recovery.

Ryan Beaulieu ran 37 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for Stearns, and Lance Thibodeau had five receptions for 43 yards.

At Orono, Mardy Simon ran seven times for 105 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Orono to its first homecoming win in eight years.

Joe Fullwood had seven carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns for the Red Riots, and Joe Nazmy added 62 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. Nazmy also had 11 tackles.

Dusty Thomas chipped in with five carries for 80 yards and scored a touchdown. Adam Chase completed 2 of 4 passes for 52 yards, including a touchdown. Chad Sanborn had 13 tackles.

Eric Day completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Mark Pullen and Chris Rabideau had four receptions for 60 yards for the Tigers.

At Old Town, Jarrett Lukas ran 7 yards to score a touchdown and completed a 25-yard pass to Travis Shaw for another to push Old Town to the win.

Brad Perry had 16 carries for 70 yards for the Indians, and Tyler Eastman ran 45 yards on 10 carries. Nate Emerson had eight tackles, and Logan Bouchard and Jake Fogarty each had an interception.

Pat Murphy scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run with no time left in the fourth quarter for Mount Desert Island. Sean Parady completed 11 of 20 passes for 95 yards. Tyler Murphy ran 13 times for 40 yards.

At Pittsfield, Wade Oliver ran for two touchdowns and caught a 36-yard pass from Andrew Weiss for another touchdown to lead Rockland.

Josh Elwell also rushed for two touchdowns for the Tigers.

Marty Quint caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Victor Quint and recovered a fumble and ran 53 yards for a touchdown for Maine Central Institute, and Wes Gagne ran 1 yard for a touchdown.

At Hampden, Jared Dunn rushed for 93 yards and two first-quarter 1-yard touchdowns to pace Morse.

Jordan Buzzell added an 85-yard TD catch from Dan Sigurdson, Rick Alexander posted a 6-yard TD run, and Shawn Perkins scored on a 20-yard run for the Shipbuilders of Bath. Sigurdson was 7 for 10 passing for 130 yards.

Blaine Meehan caught passes of 10 yards and 36 yards from Chris Morris to account for the Broncos’ TDs. Meehan finished with seven catches for 121 yards, and Morris was 12 for 18 passing for 161 yards and picked up 70 yards on 13 carries. Justin Preston ran 11 times for 46 yards. Ramsey Lafayette had nine tackles, and Drew Chase added four tackles and a sack.
