McGinley, Tarr spark Hawks

HERMON – Brian McGinley and Ryan Tarr each scored a goal to lead the Hermon Hawks to a 2-0 schoolboy soccer victory over the Orono Red Riots Monday.

Mike Pellerin and Joey Carmichael had assists for 6-4 Hermon. Corey Stanhope stopped all 10 shots he faced.

Mat Lint blocked 21 of 23 shots for the 1-7-2 Red Riots.

JV: 3-3

Greenville 16, Averill 0

At Hinckley, Durgin McKusick scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the Lakers to the win.

Kevin Bradford scored three goals and Corey Woodbury had two goals and two assists for 10-1 Greenville. Jonah Lizotte had a goal and two assists while Joe Jardine had a goal and an assist. Single goals were scored by Kyle Whitmore, Jeff Farrington, Greg Clement, Kevin Lebel, and Jon Richards. Goalie Brandon Lavigne stopped the only shot he faced.

For 1-9 Averill, Joe Hart made 15 saves on 35 shots.

Calvary Chapel 6, Gr. Portland 1

At Bangor, Brock Bradford had five goals and one assist to propel the Sabers to the win.

Andrew Lowe added a goal and Chris Phillips an assist for the 3-1 winners of Orrington. Caleb Carmichael had four saves on 10 shots.

Tyson LePage scored off a Derek Green pass for 7-2 Greater Portland Christian. Mike Saunders stopped 10 of 21 shots.

George Stevens 7, PVHS 1

At Howland, Damien Smith and Tyler Cousins each had two goals for the Eagles of Blue Hill.

Blake Wessel, Phineas Peake and Casey Giovoni added single goals for GSA of Blue Hill. Collin Henry made 14 saves on 17 shots.

Andrew Hallett scored for the Howlers. Josh Ireland stopped 19 of 29 shots.

WA Raiders 4, Narraguagus 1

At Harrington, Drake Simmons scored two goals to spark the Raiders of East Machias.

Minh Nguyen and Ben Beader each added a goal for Washington Academy. Jeremy Gray made 11 saves on 12 shots.

Kelly Hinkle scored the Knights’ lone goal. Aaron Dublin and Kyle Tenan combined for nine saves on 13 shots.

Calais 6, East Grand 0

At Danforth, Devon McPhee scored two goals and had two assists as the Blue Devils rolled.

Shawn McLean also had a pair of goals for 6-6 Calais. Cory Johnston had a goal and two assists and Jake Ludington a goal. Nick Provencher had 23 saves on 24 shots.

Mike Hanington and Zach Faulkner made 26 saves on 36 shots for the 1-7 Vikings.

DI-Stonington 5, J-B Royals 3

At Jonesport on Monday, Collin Ciomei scored four goals to lead the Mariners to the win.

Miles Douglas added a goal for the 5-5 winners. Tommy Robbins had seven saves on 15 shots.

Derek Leach scored twice and James Kelley once for the 1-9 Royals. Dean Faulkingham stopped 12 of 20 shots.

Central 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Corinth on Saturday, Josh Underhill scored the game-winner on a Danny Kane assist with 1:06 left in overtime.

Scott Kelley had the 6-4-1 Red Devils’ first goal, while Charles Haney made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Nick Ciomei scored and Thomas Robbins saved 32 of 37 shots for the 4-5 Mariners.

Field hockey

Nokomis 1, Dexter 0

At Newport, Kristi Kennedy scored off a Michelle Barden pass with five seconds left to lift the Warriors to the win.

Kirsten Gould stopped all four shots she faced for 7-3-1 Nokomis while Cristy McGowan had three saves on four shots for 7-3-1 Dexter.

Hampden 3, John Bapst 2

At Hampden, Lynn Peters scored with 7:02 left in overtime off a pass from Erika Veinote to give the 8-4 Broncos the win.

Tina Lumino and Sarah Hessert scored unassisted for HA. Caroline Samp had 22 saves on 25 shots.

Ashley Freeman and Megan Lincoln had unassisted goals for the 9-2-1 Crusaders of Bangor. Ali Dunn stopped 23 of 26 shots.

JV: Hampden 1-0

Orono 5, Old Town 1

At Orono, Meagan Hachey scored two goals to pace the host Red Riots past the Indians.

Anna O’Neil, Emily Artesani and Emily Sypher each scored a goal for the Riots. Anna Blagojevic saved nine of 10 shots.

Rachel Allen scored unassisted for the Indians. Karey Littlefield made 21 saves on 26 shots.

Girls soccer

Lee 14, Katahdin 0

At Lee, Shelby Pickering scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead the unbeaten Pandas past Katahdin of Sherman.

For 10-0 Lee Academy, Amanda Gifford had three goals, Dana Houghton scored two, and Aarika Ritchie scored one while assisting on two others. Kimmy Thurlow, Brooke Harris, and Liz Read each had a goal and an assist while Nicole Slevinsky scored one goal. Jackie Moors made three saves.

Clarissa Gallagher turned aside 13 of 53 shots for the 1-11 Cougars.

Penobscot Valley 4, Penquis 3

At Milo, Ashley Dawson scored three goals to lead the Howlers of Howland to the win.

Randi Rackley added a goal for PVHS. Jennifer Plourde had five save on 16 shots.

Erin Beasley scored twice and Sam Ellis once for the Patriots. Liza Comeau and Kate Hamlin had assists and Michelle Mulherin blocked 10 out of 19 shots.

Central 2, Piscataquis 0

At Corinth, sisters Sadie and Molly Chretien each scored a goal for the Red Devils.

Nicole Daniel earned the shutout with seven saves on nine shots for 5-4-1 Central.

Jill Martell made nine saves on 18 shots for Piscataquis of Guilford.

Greenville 8, Averill 0

At Greenville, Beth Bartley and Hannah Breton each scored two goals as the Lakers improved to 10-1.

Alisha Gilbert, Kahla Lander, Rica Breton and Addie Pelletier added a goal each for the winners. Becky Knowlton and Tasha Elsemore made just one save on one shot.

Jypsy Caron stopped 22 of 34 shots for 1-9 Averill of Hinckley.

BC Patriots 6, DI-Stonington 0

At Bangor, Amber Leathers tallied three goals as Bangor Christian rolled.

Adrienne Ricci, Carla Wilson and Maria Bustos each added a goal for the 5-4-2 winners. Brooke Hale had an assist. Johannah Kutz stopped all four shots she faced.

Regyn Lawry had 22 saves on 30 shots for the 1-10 Mariners.

Foxcroft 2, Dexter 1 (2OT)

At Dexter, Kristina Weymouth converted a penalty kick with 36 seconds remaining in the second overtime to give the Ponies the win.

Lindsay Chase added an unassisted goal for 5-4 Foxcroft. Brittany Fadley made 10 saves on 17 shots.

Searsport 5, Sumner 0

At East Sullivan, Katya Kanus scored a pair of goals to lift the Vikings to victory.

Brittany Frisbee, Natasha Zito and Jenna Chaney added a goal apiece for 10-0-1 Searsport. April Pickering stopped all five shots she faced.

Whitney Page made 17 saves on 29 shots for the 1-8 Tigers.
