Orono conference to focus on tourism

ORONO – The Bangor-Saint John Tourism Corridor conference, “Best Practices in Tourism,” will be held Sunday to Tuesday Oct. 24-26 at the Black Bear Inn and Conference Center.

Activities will begin Sunday Oct. 24, with a tour of the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor. Then a welcome reception will be held at the Muddy Rudder in Brewer with Patrick Nero, athletic director at the University of Maine.

On Monday Oct. 25, Bangor Mayor Dan Tremble and Margaret Totten of Saint John will welcome participants to the Black Bear Inn.

Activities will include:

. “Some Keys to Doing Business Across the Border,” Jonathan Daniels, Wade Merritt and Vaughn Stinson.

. “The Way Tourism Works for Us,” Totten and Donna Fichtner, Bangor.

. “Best Practices: Culture, Heritage and History,” Mark Edwards, Theresa Secord, Jane Fullerton and Jim Bezanson.

. “Tommyknockers” and More Tour, guided tour of Bangor based on literary works of Stephen King.

. Endless downtown discovery, including Maine Discovery Museum, Bangor Museum and Center for History and University of Maine Museum of Art.

. Reception and dinner at the Sea Dog in Bangor. “Best Practices: Marketing Partnerships for Product Development,” Beth Kelly.

Activities on Tuesday, Oct. 26, will be:

. “Creative Genius: The Arts and the Creative Economy,” Mark Torres, Tracy Michaud-Stutzman and Bernard Cormier.

. “Welcome with Gateways, Trailways and Green Space,” Judi Perkins, Mike Pullen and Ross Jefferson.

. Shopping spree in Greater Bangor.
