Bangor police arrest three on drug charges

Three people were charged Friday after undercover police in Bangor witnessed an alleged drug transaction and later found two semiautomatic handguns in a car glove box.

Two officers in an unmarked car at a Franklin Street parking lot watched Thursday night as Esther Levy, 26, of Bangor allegedly handed Julie Jenkins, 31, of Bangor a plastic bag containing marijuana, according to reports. Jenkins put the bag inside a vehicle and the two women went into a nearby bar.

At 1 a.m., the women came back out with three men and were approached by police. Jenkins allegedly told the officers that Levy gave her the marijuana, which was visible on a car seat, free of charge, according to reports.

Police searched the vehicle and found a glass pipe and another bag of marijuana, along with two semiautomatic handguns and ammunition stored in the glove box, according to reports.

The owner of the vehicle, Daniel Nelson, 27, of Eddington, did have a concealed weapons permit, but the guns were temporarily confiscated because Nelson was intoxicated, according to reports.

Levy was charged with unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, and Nelson and Jenkins were charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

A Bangor woman was summoned in Brewer on Friday after she allegedly used her child’s stroller to hide stolen merchandise from the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Store security told police that at 5:15 p.m. they watched Shaylene Braley, 31, hide $90 worth of merchandise in a stroller occupied by one of three children who were shopping with her, according to police. The items included napkins, tablecloths and cosmetics.

Braley was summoned for theft, according to police.
