HODGDON – Principal Stephen J. Fitzpatrick has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2001. They are: Lura F. Griffin, valedictorian; Melissa S. Dwyer, salutatorian; Jamie L. Cleary, first honor part; Heather F. Bartlett, second honor part; and Amanda A. O’Bar, third honor essayist.

Senior Award Night will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, and graduation ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, both at the Hodgdon High School gymnasium.

Valedictorian Lura F. Griffin, daughter of James and Brenda Griffin of Hodgdon, has been active in academic and extracurricular activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society, worked as a member of the yearbook staff, was a two-year band and three-year chorus member, a member of the Girls’ Ensemble and represented the school at Dirigo Girls State.

She was a member of the soccer, basketball and softball teams, providing leadership and sportsmanship.

Academic honors include being the recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, Maine Scholar’s Award, the Chemistry Award, Anatomy and Physiology Award and the Math Award.

The school recognized her as its 2001 recipient of the Maine Principal’s Award. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono in the College of Engineering next fall.

Salutatorian Melissa S. Dwyer, daughter of Bruce and Candie Dwyer of Linneus, has been active in many activities at Hodgdon High School.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, was a Dirigo Representative, was a class officer, a member of the school play, a three-year member of both band and chorus, and participated in athletics as a varsity cheerleader and member of the volleyball team.

Academic honors include the Math Award, Science Award and selection as Student of the Month. She will attend the University of Maine at Machias, majoring in behavioral sciences.

First honor essayist Jamie L. Cleary, daughter of John and Peggy Cleary, has been active in activities including National Honor Society, Student Council, French Club, three years in both band and chorus, and was manager of the basketball team.

Academic honors include the Math Award, Chemistry Award, Student of the Month and the Golden Rule Award. She will attend the University of Maine at Machias.

Second honor essayist Heather F. Bartlett, daughter of Carol Bartlett and the late Virgil Bartlett of Orient, has been active in the National Honor Society, was a class officer, had a leadership role in Jobs for Maine Graduates, was a food service aide, a member of the French Club, a member of band and chorus, and a member of the volleyball team.

Academic honors include the English Award, Health Award, Science Award and Civics Award. She will attend the University of Southern Maine at Gorham, majoring in psychology.

Third honor essayist Amanda A. O’Bar, daughter of Troy and Trudy O’Bar of Linneus, has been active in the National Honor Society, was a Dirigo Girls State representative, served on the Student Council, was a member of the school play, interactive theater, the French Club, was a three-year member of the band and chorus, and was a varsity cheerleader.

Academic honors include the Maine Scholar’s Award, Chemistry Award, French Award, History Award, Anatomy and Physiology Award, and Student of the Month. She will attend the University of Maine at Machias this fall.
