LEVI MILLER
Miller, a senior on the Belfast cross country team, raced to the Eastern Maine Class B individual championship on his home course at the Troy Howard Middle School on Saturday. Miller was timed in 15 minutes, 42.8 seconds, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runnerup Miles Bartlett of Lake Region of Naples.
Small School (Classes C-D)
TYLER LEVESQUE
Levesque, a sophomore on the Madawaska boys soccer team, scored three goals as the 10th-seeded Owls upended Dexter 4-2 to win the Eastern Maine Class C championship. Levesque scored 10 goals as Madawaska won four consecutive road playoff games to earn the regional title.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
LIZ ANDERSON
A sophomore goalie for the Belfast field hockey team, Anderson allowed three goals in four playoff games and posted two shutouts to help the Lions win the Class B state title. Against York in the state final she had three saves on four shots, including one with five seconds left to preserve the win.
Small School (Classes C-D)
LAURA OVERTON
Overton, a freshman on the George Stevens Academy soccer team, scored the final penalty kick to boost the No. 5 Eagles to a 2-1 upset victory over No. 2 Madawaska in the Eastern Maine Class C final Saturday. Overton also had an assist in a 2-0 quarterfinal win over No. 4 Washington Academy.
