Cummings, MCI Huskies knock off Eagles

SOUTH CHINA – Claire Lackie smacked a pinch-hit RBI single during Maine Central Institute’s four-run second inning Thursday and Jen Cummings pitched a five-hitter as the Huskies posted a 4-0 schoolgirl softball victory over Erskine Academy.

Mary Lancaster and Amanda Leavitt each singled twice for MCI of Pittsfield.

Alycia Pushard hit two singles for Erskine.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Melissa Michaud hit two doubles and knocked in two runs to lead the Ponies to victory.

Leigh Cartwright had two singles and an RBI for Foxcroft. Mandi Murray smacked a single and a triple.

Karen Nelson had two singles and an RBI for the Tigers. Briley Belanger singled and tripled with an RBI.

At Newport, Mary Randall and Sarah Metivier combined to shut out the host Warriors, giving up just three hits.

Emily Ouellette and Mary Randall each hit an RBI single for the Indians. Shaunessy Saucier knocked two singles.

Laura Pelkey, Tina Turner and Megan Randlett had a single apiece for Nokomis.

Jean Hamlin, Mindy Dyer and Jen Hussey hit RBI singles for Penquis of Milo.

At Rockland, Toni-Lynn Robbins tossed a seven-hitter, striking out 14 and walking two, and Olivia Mitchell’s two-run double highlighted a four-run third inning that wiped out a 1-0 deficit.

Mitchell had two singles to go with her double while Robbins and Brittany Quinn contributed two singles apiece.

Kirby Gushee doubled and singled for Rockland.

White hurls 5-inning no-hitter

At Mount Desert on Tuesday, righty Kelly White tossed a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking two in five innings of work as the Golden Bucks blanked the Trojans.

Elissa Gordon knocked three singles and drove in two runs for Bucksport. Jessica Taylor knocked in a run to go with three singles.

Eagles sweep Hawks, Tigers

At Ellsworth on Tuesday, Crystal Roberts had a total of four hits and four RBIs for two games as her Ellsworth Eagles knocked off Hermon in the first game, and Sumner of East Sullivan in the nightcap.

In the opener against the Hawks, Heidi Chan singled twice and knocked in two runs for Ellsworth. Roberts had three of her RBIs and two singles for the Eagles. Tara Dyer knocked an RBI single, and Courtney Breach had a single, double, and an RBI.

Hermon was led by Brianna Bruce, with a two-run single. Stephanie Poole and Karen McDonald each had an RBI single.

In the nightcap duel with Sumner, Sarah Silsby smacked an RBI triple for the Eagles. Holly Tripp had two singles and an RBI, as did Katie Sirois. Roberts had an RBI double.

The Tigers were led by Meghan Philio, who nailed an RBI triple. Dani Crowley hit a double and scored a run. Rachel Philio had a single.

At Sabattus, Morgan Crandall struck out five and walked one in a three-hitter, and helped herself with two singles as the Lions knocked off the Raiders.

Kelsey Bryant powered Belfast with four RBIs on three singles and a double. Mylie Collins singled twice and Kate Ross added an RBI triple.

Danielle Sargent, Jill Lizotte and Alison Ferguson each hit a single for Oak Hill.

Rebecca Stevens paced the Crusaders with three singles and three RBIs. Annie Levenson-Falk singled three times and Christina Rich plated three runs with a double and a single.

At Houlton, freshman righthander Aimee Guy pitched a two-hitter over five innings, striking out six and not walking anybody, and Anna Lenentine belted a grand slam homer and RBI single.

Danielle Hagerman had two doubles and two singles and drove in three runs; Sarah Beasley had three singles and an RBI and Rebecca Lenentine singled twice for Houlton.

Susan and Becca Saucier had singles for Stearns.

At Dyer Brook, Nichole Labbe drove in three runs on a double and a single, and the Patriots took advantage of five Warriors errors en route to the win.

Andrea Sage added two singles for Bangor Christian. Kara Hartman and Renee Mick combined to scatter seven hits.

Rhonda Chambers paced Southern Aroostook with two singles and a double. Kristi Brooker singled twice.

At Newport, Shawn Henderson and Brian Hawthorne each drove in a run in the Warriors’ four-run fourth inning en route to the victory.

Hawthorne finished with a double, a single and an RBI for Nokomis. Jon Blair, Pat Morse and Justin Nichols each singled twice and had an RBI. Justin Veazie struck out seven and walked two in the four-hitter.

Andy Pease hit an RBI triple for the Indians and Roger Cole added an RBI double.

At Guilford, Randy Burgess pounded three hits, including a two-run home run, as the Pirates cruised past their rivals of Milo.

Burgess also hit two singles. Brian White belted a solo shot, while John Luellen and Ben Stearns each singled.

Bud Webb led the Patriots with two singles.

At Rockland, Will Dennen’s run-scoring fielder’s choice broke a 4-4 tie in the four-run seventh-inning rally and Tom Massey followed with a two-run double as Camden Hills won its fifth straight.

The Windjammers trailed 4-3 entering the seventh but Abe Dugal’s leadoff double and a throwing error on Grady Peck’s sacrifice tied it and set the stage for Dennen’s grounder and Massey’s double.

Massey had a single to go with his double and drove in three runs. Dugal also had a single and an RBI. Freshman righty Alex Moro went the distance for the win, allowing seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Greg Harjula doubled and singled for Rockland, Shane Dow singled twice with an RBI and Rick Bagnall had a run-scoring double.

At Deer Isle, Hans Reuter slammed a two-run homer in the Eagles’ eight-run fifth inning to lead George Stevens to the win.

Baron Yurhick and Ryan Hutchins each singled twice and drove in a run for the Eagles of Blue Hill. Jake Lowell added an RBI double.

Justin Boyce paced the Mariners with two singles and two RBIs. Josh Bolton added an RBI single and Eric Ray doubled.
