A licensed ship’s captain has been ordained as a deacon at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland. Jeffrey C. Lewis of Camden is now a transitional deacon, which means he is taking the first step toward ordination to the priesthood. Bishop Chilton Knudson of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine presided over the Nov. 1 service at St. Peter’s, 34 White St. Lewis, a University of Texas graduate, moved to Maine to be near the sea. He is a former Outward Bound instructor “and foresees that his active ministry will always have some attachment [to] the sea and voyaging.” He will serve a two-year internship at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Waterville.
