Dems tap replacements for commissioner seat

OLD TOWN – Penobscot County Democrats created on Sunday a list of four prospective replacements for Penobscot County Commissioner Dick Blanchard, who is leaving to serve as a state legislator.

The list now will be forwarded to Gov. John Baldacci, who will choose from the proposed replacements or appoint a candidate of his choosing.

The four replacements suggested by the Democrats are:

. Joe Clark, Mattawamkeag town manager and a former state representative from Millinocket.

. Steve Stanley, a state senator from Medway,

. Laura Sanborn of Alton.

. James Dearmon of Orono.

Blanchard, who will be sworn in on Dec. 1, served as a commissioner for 18 years.
