Public opinion aboard

“Waiting game in Iraq,” by columnist Gwynne Dyer (BDN, Nov. 9), brought home again how little at home is known about public opinion aboard.

The majority of Americans believe the world agrees with them. What may have gone wrong is not that big a deal in the long run, especially with England, Russia, Italy and Australia “sharing” the burden. Dyer just gives a glimpse of how the rest of the powerful nations are just not “cool” to it. They are dead serious and watching with a wary eye.

There may come a time of truth when it may be asked, however naively, how misunderstanding and information could have somehow been bypassed; with all the media “information outlets.”

Not only do I agree with Dyer that “the U.S. mass media shield [us] from the knowledge,” but are everywhere becoming more restrictive, censorious and tailoring outlets to be more attractive, empty of real news.
