VEAZIE – A local teenager was charged with arson in connection with a Nov. 20 fire near Greystone Trailer Park.
The 16-year-old boy was charged Thursday with arson, failure to report a dangerous fire, and possession of tobacco products by a minor, according to police Officer Chris Greeley.
The suspect and a friend soaked a piece of clothing with aerosol deodorant, wrapped the cloth around the deodorant can, shot it with a BB gun and set it on fire, Greeley said.
Police spoke with a relative of the suspect and gathered other information that led them to him, he said. They have yet to find the other person involved.
The fire caught on some dry grass at the edge of a gravel pit and was reported at 1 p.m. by residents at the mobile home park.
“It didn’t make contact with any structures,” Greeley said Friday.
Greeley credited the Fire Department with stopping the fire at the ground level before it spread to nearby trees. An area 20 feet by 15 feet was burned, Greeley said, and the flames were 15 to 20 feet from homes in the park.
The suspect is known to police and is facing a criminal mischief charge on an unrelated incident, Greeley said.
