Dinner on tap in Brewer

If you’re looking for a break from holiday shopping and decorating chores, a local group of avid fishermen and – women have just the answer for you.

The Penobscot Fly Fishers will hold their monthly meeting and dinner on Wednesday at the Coach House Restaurant in Brewer.

The dinner starts at 6 p.m., and will also serve as the club’s holiday party.

In past years, a gift exchange has been held at the holiday meeting, but this year the board of directors has decided to change that tradition. In lieu of exchanging gifts, attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift for a child, which will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Following another tradition, the club will also be collecting nonperishable food items for Bangor-area food kitchens.

Chief warden’s tip of the week

Maine Game Wdn. Col. Tom Santaguida offers an outdoors tip each week in the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife’s weekly report.

“Everyone who enjoys the private property of another while engaging in outdoor recreation in Maine does so at the good will of the landowner.

“In addition to asking permission prior to entering private property and being respectful of the land while you are a guest there, it is always a good idea to show your appreciation and thanks to the landowner for letting you hunt,

snowmobile, bird watch or whatever recreation you enjoy.

“Appreciation may be expressed in many ways: drop off a pie, help cut or bring in firewood, or help out during hay season. If you are successful hunting on someone else’s land – drop off some deer meat or some birds.

“A little appreciation for the gift of using someone else’s land will often go a long way towards ensuring future opportunities for outdoor recreation in Maine, and it’s also the right thing to do.”
