MACHIAS – Gov. Angus King has appointed John H. Joseph, president of the University of Maine at Machias, to the Maine State Tourism Commission.
Joseph became the eighth president of UMM this summer. As a member of the tourism commission, he will join representatives from across the state in recommending marketing, promotion and advertising strategies to the state tourism office.
The advisory group also plans and conducts state tourism conferences, such as the Governor’s Conference on Tourism, which will take place Jan. 23-24 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Joseph came to UMM from Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he was the executive officer of the Albert E. Robin campus and a member of the Roosevelt University Institute for Tourism Studies.
The mission of the institute was to support the hospitality and tourism industry through research, education and development. Joseph worked with business and state government leaders to promote tourism studies at the secondary and collegiate level in addition to providing information for the Illinois tourism industry.
