BOOTHBAY – The graduation activities for the Class of 2001 have been announced by Boothbay Region High School. Graduation will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, with the Alumni Ball at 8 p.m. that evening.
Valedictorian Ian McConnell is the son of Karen and Mike McConnell of Boothbay. He is a Maine Principals’ Award recipient, a National Merit Scholarship winner, winner of the Discover Card Tribute Award Gold Level, an AP Scholar, member of National Honor Society and the Maine State Math Team. He was a member of the 2001 State Class C Basketball Champion team, tennis team captain for three years and captain of the soccer team for one year. McConnell will attend Harvard University this fall.
Salutatorian Erin Arnold is the daughter of Rita and Gary Arnold of Boothbay Harbor. She won the National History and Government Award, Dartmouth Club Book Award, Maine Scholars Achievement Award, is a member of the National Honor Society and is in Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Arnold received Book Awards in Latin, math and English and is a member of the math, swim and track teams. She will attend Cornell University this fall, majoring in visual art at the College of Architecture, Art and Planning.
The honor essay will be delivered by honor student Melissa Holmes. Other honor student of the Class of 2001 are Matthew Brown, Jennifer Farrin, Jessica Gingras, Tanner Grover, Terri House, Carrie Knapp, Kristin Magnus, Stephanie Parker, Sarah Prouty and Benjamin Stockwell.
