Authorities are investigating burglaries or attempted break-ins to more than a half-dozen businesses in Bangor during the past week.
The burglars seemed to focus on money, in some cases leaving other valuables behind, and in one instance tried to leave with a safe.
In one of the more recent burglaries, an employee of the Dunkin’ Donuts on Odlin Road arrived at work early Saturday morning to find the drive-through window open, a safe on the ground outside the building and money missing from several register tills. Investigators were reviewing fingerprints, footprints found at the scene and video surveillance to help identify the intruder.
Sometime late New Year’s Eve or into New Year’s Day someone also broke into the Westgate Gulf station on Union Street, taking among other things containers of candy that were removed from their metal holders and carried off.
Three businesses at Chapel Hill on Hammond Street were burglarized, The Bridal Gallery, Suncatchers and the Modern Woodmen of America, with money reported taken from two of the buildings.
The burglar or burglars weren’t always successful.
An employee at Dorr’s Equipment on Hammond Street reported Dec. 28 that someone tried to break into the soda machines on the side building but didn’t get in. And at the Airport Mall, pry marks were found that same day on the metal-framed glass doors, although no entry was gained.
Brewer police officers investigated a burglary at the Dave Gould Ford dealership on Wilson Street reported early Monday morning.
The burglars broke into the dealership sometime overnight, taking an undisclosed amount of money and some equipment. They also broke into candy vending machines, taking money and candy, according to the police report by Brewer police Officer Edmund Willey.
The business apparently was in the process of being relocated at the time of the burglary. Anyone with information can contact the Brewer Police Department at 989-7001.
Brewer police went to a Tibbetts Street residence Sunday for a report of a family fight and ended up arresting one man who wasn’t involved in the dispute. As part of the investigation, Brewer police Officer Paul Gauvin and Sgt. Jason Moffitt learned that while not entangled in the dispute, Joel Molina Torres, 27, of Bangor was prohibited from being at the residence as part of a protection order against him. He was charged with violation of a protection order.
