Shoplifting reported at Bangor Wal-Mart

A Husson College student was issued a summons for theft Monday after a Bangor Wal-Mart security guard watched her place diet pills in her purse without paying for them.

Ha Ae Kyung, 19, spoke little English but acknowledged that what she did was wrong, Bangor police Officer Kerry Libby wrote in her report.

The security officer told Libby that Kyung picked up a package of diet pills, put them in her purse and then went into the restroom.

The male Wal-Mart employee instructed a female colleague to follow Kyung, who reportedly took the pills out of their outside packaging and put them back in her purse, discarding the wrapping.

Libby wrote that Kyung didn’t understand her Miranda rights, so the officer wrote her a summons for the theft and escorted her from the Wal-Mart.

The Bangor Wal-Mart was the site of another alleged shoplifting Monday afternoon when a woman was spotted putting several items into her pockets.

A Wal-Mart security officer told police he saw Fayedra Cyr, 29, of Carmel take five items, pocket them and proceed to the checkout to pay for $27.34 worth of other items, a police report said.

Bangor police Officer Randall Parsons spoke with Cyr after the security officer detained her. She admitted to taking the items, which totaled $52.10.

Parsons’ report said Cyr had $116 in cash when the officer searched her – after she had paid for her merchandise. Cyr told Parsons she did not know why she took the items.

She was issued a summons for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

Brewer police are investigating three burglaries reported Tuesday morning that may or may not be related, Sgt. Chris Martin said.

The first call came in at 7 a.m. followed by two more around 8 a.m. Martin didn’t elaborate on where the burglaries occurred or whether they were residential or business break-ins.

Brewer police are investigating, Martin said, adding that he expects to know more by today.
