Bird, Scott, Worster lead Lee past Sabers

LEE – The Lee Academy Pandas used a balanced scoring attack to beat Calvary Chapel 62-49 in schoolboy basketball action Saturday to end the Sabers winning streak at 29.

Tom Bird racked up 10 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for Lee. Matt Scott scored 18 points and Gerry Worster added 14, including 6-for-6 shooting from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Neil Cowan added 11 points.

Brock Bradford hit seven 3-pointers en route to 28 points for the Sabers. He scored 19 in the third for Calvary Chapel, which went undefeated last year en route to the Class D state title.

Seth Rivera led Fort Kent with 13 points and Carson Hartman added 11 points.

Tyler Deabay scored 14 points and had eight rebounds for Hermon. Chris Harding had 14 points and six assists. Ben Adams had 14 rebounds.

Tim Hartin led Southern Aroostook with 20 points. Travis Brooker scored 11 and Wade Hersey chipped in 10.

At Alfond Arena, Bryant Kingsbury scored three goals, including the game-winner in the second period, as the 6-3 Eagles of Oakland held off the 10-2-1 Red Riots.

Ted Fabian added two goals and Chad Furbush had one. Zach Parent made 21 saves on 26 shots and gave up three goals in the third period as Orono tried to rally from a 6-2 deficit in the second.

Tony Raymond and Jacob Roeder each scored twice. Derek Smith added a goal. Starter Jared Bussell and David Eugley combined for 11 saves on 17 shots. Eugley, who entered the game with nine minutes left in the first period, gave up two goals.
