PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Archie E. Rivers was named “Sailor of the Quarter” for U.S. Coast Guard cutter Reliance, based in Portsmouth.

Rivers received recognition for assistance in completion of more than 30 ship-wide projects in preparation of the cutter’s upcoming patrol.

He also directed the installation of three air conditioning units, improving shipboard living conditions.

In addition, he trained crew members on damage control, spending more than 100 hours teaching them how to combat fires and flooding.

Rivers is the son of Christine Rivers of Winter Harbor and Archie Rivers Jr. of Old Town. He is a 1982 graduate of Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan, and joined the Coast Guard in 1986.
