Downtown open space

The loss of the Masonic Hall last year in Bangor has not left us with a hole, but has instead provided a corridor that opens the downtown like a breath of fresh air. I understand that that plot of land is the primary monetary asset for the Masons, but it really seems a shame to sell it so another building can go there in the name of development.

Let’s go against the grain and use it as another public space for visitors to downtown. Rather than a building, how about a playground to complement the children’s museum that is right across the street? Of course there would be after-hours concerns, but I am sure there are ways to address that.

Let’s take a risk to make downtown Bangor something unusually special.
