University of Maine junior goalie Jimmy Howard has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. Howard of Ogdensburg N.Y. stopped 53 of 56 shots in 2 games against Boston University this past weekend.

Nick Pelotte a senior guard at Plymouth State University has been named Little East Player of the Week. Pelotte, a former Valley of Bingham basketball star, averaged 33 points, 6 rebounds and 3.5 assist in games against Keene State and Rhode Island College.

Mary Ann Welsh

Maryann Welsh a freshman forward on the UMaine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team has been named Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Week. Welsh, of Brooklyn N.Y. averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds in two games this past week.

Bartas Samaitis

Senior center Bartas Samaitis, of the UMaine Fort Kent men’s basketball team, has been named Sunrise Conference Player of the Week. Samaitis from Vilnius, Lithuania averaged 28.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two Bengals victories this past week.

Eileen Flaherty

Bowdoin sophomore basketball player Eileen Flaherty, of Fairfield, Conn., has been named New England Small College Athletic player of the week. Flaherty averaged 25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two road wins the for the Polar Bears this past week.
