ROCKLAND – A local man was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly operating under the influence of alcohol.
The arrest followed a two-vehicle crash near the entrance to his driveway.
David Larby, 42, of Talbot Avenue was driving east on that street around 8 a.m. when he hit another vehicle head-on as he was turning his truck left into his own driveway.
He was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport by police for a minor injury and for a blood alcohol test, Sgt. Jeffrey McLaughlin said, and then was arrested on a charge of OUI.
Alan Butler, 52, also of Talbot Avenue, was driving west in a 1999 Honda minivan when it was struck by Larby’s 1988 Ford Ranger. Butler also suffered injuries.
Butler and Larby were both treated at PenBay and then released, according to a hospital spokeswoman on Wednesday.
Larby’s vehicle was a total loss. Butler’s van sustained $5,000 in damage.
It was unknown if seat belts were worn, McLaughlin said, but there were no passengers. The accident was investigated by Officer Lloyd Daniels.
