Reservist who served in Iraq dies in crash

AUBURN – A traffic accident on a slippery road killed an Army reservist from Lewiston who returned to Maine last fall after serving in Iraq.

Alan Delmastro, 30, was a passenger in a car driven by his wife that spun out of control Thursday in snow and slush on Riverside Drive and slid into the path of a car coming the other way, police said.

Trudi Delmastro, 31, who friends said was two months pregnant, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where her condition was listed Friday as serious.

Alan Delmastro worked as a security officer at Bates College. He was a member of the 94th Military Police Company and spent most of his Iraq tour in Fallujah, as a security escort to VIPs in a quick-reaction force and as a liaison to the mayor’s office.
