Realtors across Maine sold a total of 14,445 homes during 2004, an increase of 9.05 percent over 2003. The median sales price per home was $175,000. The price increase amounted to a 12.2 percent gain over the 2003 median of $156,000. This means that half the homes sold for more and half sold for less than $175,000. Nationally, the median price was $184,100. The National Association of Realtors reported it as the strongest annual increase since 1980. The median prices in Maine counties varied from a high of $229,900 in Cumberland County to a low of $59,450 in Aroostook County. The median prices in other Maine counties included $128,000 for Penobscot, $179,250 for Hancock, $112,000 for Washington, $72,000 for Piscataquis, $139,000 for Waldo and $190,200 for Knox.
