COOPER: DEORGANIZATION MULLED

The Down East town’s 145 residents gathered Thursday to review a plan that could lead to the town’s deorganization as of July 1, 2006. A deorganizational committee, made up of three residents, one selectman and one school board member, walked residents through how Cooper might look as a township if they approve a referendum on Feb. 17 to continue with the deorganization process. The vote will take place at the Cathance Grange Hall (photo), the town’s rented meeting space. If the town approves the deorganization plan so far, and if the Legislature approves the town becoming a township, a final vote would be held in November. (Katherine Cassidy, BDN)
