At South Portland on Saturday, Southern Maine Community College built a 12-point halftime lead on its way to a first-round victory over Eastern Maine Community College of Bangor in the Maine Small College Conference tournament.

SMCC went on to win the title Sunday, beating Central Maine Community College of Auburn 62-37.

Leann Pike scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Seawolves. Elizabeth Ouellette netted 17 points and Natasha Dyer posted 12.

Devon Schwab paced EMCC with 14 points, Katie Harris scored 12 and Jessica Fitzmaurice contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.

EMCC had all of its players receive postseason honors. Harris was named to both the MSCC All-Tournament team and the All-MSCC team, while Jessica Trundy and Schwab also earned all-league honors.

EMCC was given the John Dakin Award for outstanding team sportsmanship and Jim Cartner was named the MSCC Coach of the Year.

The Golden Eagles all received Academic All-America recognition for posting a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Team members are Trundy, Harris, Schwab, Fitzmaurice, Ali Keegan, Stephanie Kennedy, Angela Marden and Natalie Foster.

At Providence, R.I., the Friars poured on the offense to top Maine 4-1 on Sunday.

Hilary Greaves netted two insurance goals for Providence after Sonny Watrous and Rachel Crissy each scored in the first period.

Maine responded in the third period with a goal by Andrea Steranko.

Rachel Gettings made 23 saves on 27 shots for the Black Bears, now 12-9-3 overall, 3-7-2 in Hockey East.

Amy Thomas piled up 30 saves on 31 shots for Providence (15-7-4, 10-1-1 HE).

At Providence, R.I., on Saturday, Karen Thatcher scored off a rebound 37 seconds into overtime, lifting No. 10 Providence to a Hockey East win over Maine.

The Bears’ Abby Krause scored her first collegiate goal at 3:42 of the third period off assists from Amy Quirion and Brigitte Laflamme. Rachel Gettings made 24 saves on 26 shots.

Rush Zimmerman had a power-play goal for the Friars to back Amy Thomas, who made 26 saves on 27 shots.
