New chaplain at Acadia

BANGOR – Jacquie Soucy joined Acadia Hospital as a chaplain in October.

Soucy has a master’s degree in social work from Florida State University and a master’s degree in divinity from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif.

She has been a social worker and employee assistance coordinator at Eastern Maine Medical Center, a private practitioner in Bangor, a clinical social worker at Maine Center for Integrated Rehabilitation, and a medical social worker for Hospice of Community Health and Counseling Services in the Dover-Foxcroft area.

“I believe I have now found the perfect setting in which both my interests in spirituality and social work can complement each other,” Soucy said.

Go Red for Women

BANGOR – The American Heart Association will hold its annual Go Red for Women conference, an event designed to educate Maine women about heart disease and stroke, a leading health threat for women. The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

Advance registration is required. The general public is invited to stop by from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to visit vendor booths or health screening areas.

The conference, sponsored by Affiliated Pharmacy Services, Northeast Cardiology Associates and Eastern Maine Medical Center, will feature speakers and educational presentations, health screenings and information booths designed to educate and empower women to take charge and improve their own and their family’s heart health. Continuing education credit will be available to participating health care professionals.

The cost of the conference is $20 for the general public and $40 for health care professionals seeking continuing education credit.

Topics in orthopedics

BANGOR – Several local health care providers will participate in St. Joseph Healthcare’s Contemporary Topics in Orthopedics for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals conference on March 9 at Sugarloaf.

Speakers will include: Dr. Bruce Malmer, chief of anesthesia at St. Joseph Hospital; Bernard Castonguay, physical therapist at Acadia Sports Rehabilitation; Jane Beaudoin, nurse practitioner at the Maine Rehabilitation Center; Matthew Flynn, chief financial officer at St. Joseph Healthcare; Steve Libby, cast technician at Downeast Orthopedics, and Travis Smith, orthopedic technologist, Eastern Maine Medical Center; and Dr. Garrett Martin, orthopedic surgeon.
