PRESQUE ISLE – Seventy-four students from Presque Isle High School spent Memorial Day weekend investigating the Maine coast. The students traveled to Southwest Harbor, Birch Point Beach at Owl’s Head and to Camden Hills State Park.
The purpose of the biology department trip was to provide sophomore students with a hands-on experience in investigating a type of environment that is different from central Aroostook County. Students also looked for ecological relationships similar to those found among the organisms living in Aroostook County.
Students had the opportunity to view displays on fishing, hypothermia, water survival, tides, fog, weather and other aspects of the ocean. Students also observed feeding, defensive behaviors, camouflage and other interrelationships between sea creatures.
