Zonta Club of Bangor, part of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization of business executives and professionals working to advance the status of women, is introducing Image, Style & Fashion 2005.
This new event is described as “a multifaceted fashion fair” where attendees will find a variety of vendor and information booths, hear brief presentations, and view informal modeling.
The activities are designed to help all women recognize and maximize their individual grace and beauty.
Image, Style & Fashion 2005 takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road in Bangor.
Admission is just $5.
Co-chairman Alex Turallo wrote that Zonta members “are very excited about this new event, and hope that the greater Bangor area will be, too.”
At the fashion fair, you will be able to view the latest styles in everything from clothing to eyewear and makeup, make purchases and even get a massage.
Among the presenters will be our own ShopGirl, Kristen Andresen, whom you also see on WLBZ Channel 2, and Sharon Pelletier of WABI-TV5.
A tip of the patriotic hat this morning to Unicel of Bangor.
The word from senior marketing coordinator Ryann Tash is that “Unicel has donated a total of 1,054,071 minutes of airtime to incoming and outgoing troops in a total of 40 phones” since it began its “Phone Home” program in July 2003.
Unicel provides cellular telephones that our Bangor International Airport Troop Greeters offer members of the military traveling through BIA.
Those phone calls – every single minute of the million-plus made to date – mean a great deal to the individuals making the calls, and to those receiving them.
I congratulate Unicel for instituting, and continuing, this kind and generous program, and for maintaining such a low profile that most people don’t know when they “Phone Home,” their call is courtesy of Unicel.
Members of the University of Maine Chapter of Chi Omega sorority are hosting their 4th annual Bowl-For-Wishes from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Old Town Bowling Center, 185 Center St.
Bowlers can register a team of four for $25 by calling Laura Crosby, 866-4215, or e-mailing laura.crosby@umit.Maine.edu.
All proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation, the sorority’s national philanthropy.
Make-A-Wish grants personal wishes of children suffering from life-threatening diseases, and all funds raised at this event will benefit the Maine chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The average cost of a child’s wish is $5,000, so, in addition to bowling, the fund-raiser will feature raffle tickets for door prizes, and the Chi O’s will be selling snacks.
Private donations are welcome, and can be made by contacting Crosby.
Carol Morrison of Millinocket says a Spaghetti Supper will raise funds to help send members of Boy Scouts Troop 58 to summer camp is 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the American Legion Hall on Central Street in Millinocket.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and $15 for families, and can be purchased in advance.
Takeout and delivery service is also available by calling 723-8088.
Now is the time for eastern Mainers to register and begin collecting pledges for the 7th annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fund-raiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Maine.
The event is scheduled for five sites.
The organization’s director Pat Saunders reminds readers that Bowl for Kids’ Sake “is the program’s most important fund-raising campaign,” and that all the money raised “goes directly toward matching children with Big Brothers or Big Sisters, right here in eastern Maine.”
Bowl for Kids’ Sake in Hancock County is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3, at Eastward Lanes in Ellsworth.
Penobscot County bowlers will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Old Town Bowling Center, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Family Fun Lanes in Bangor.
Those in Washington County can bowl either from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Eagles Lanes in Machias, or 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the St. Croix Club in Calais.
Saunders reminds you “it’s not your skill, or your score, that counts. It’s your effort.
“The greatest satisfaction comes from knowing you’ve helped kids in your community.”
