GRADUATION

Schools

Graduation exercises will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at the Georges Valley High School gymnasium.

Valedictorian is Catherine Fillebrown, daughter of Donald and Mary Fillebrown of Tenants Harbor. She played the flute and took part in All State Band as a senior, District III Honors Band for three years, and an exchange program to Quebec. She played on the tennis team as a senior and took part in ballet. She worked for Monhegan Boat Line last summer. She has worked as a teacher’s aide, bell-ringer for the Salvation Army, marched for the March of Dimes, and took part in a dance for the Red Cross. She will attend Colby College in Waterville.

Salutatorian is Sarah Payne, daughter of Nancy Beckett and Jim Payne of Thomaston. She has been in student government all four years, was elected to the National Honor Society and took part in ballet and modern dance. She was stage manager for theater productions and was involved with Down East Singers. She worked as a secretary’s assistant, education intern and camp counselor for the Wells National Research Reserve. Her community service projects were the Thomaston Public Library and Watts Hall Community Players. She will attend Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass., to study environmental studies and international relations.

Other GVHS seniors who will graduate with honors are Greta VanCampen, Erin Niland, Elizabeth Hansen, Kirsten Cloutier, Lindsay Faustini, Ashly Stone, Brianna Winston, Kathryn Flanagan, Christina Hines, Sara Allan, Wyatt Philbrook, Nicholas Paine, Anna Carney and April Sprague.

Lincoln Academy, Newcastle

Graduation exercises were held June 7 at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

Valedictorian was Tyler Scott Plummer, son of Scott and Tori Plummer of Bristol. He was captain of the varsity golf team and played lacrosse. He was class president during junior and senior years, taught French at elementary schools as part of the Lincoln Academy foreign language outreach program and won the Maine Scholars Achievement award, Williams College Book Award, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, KVAC All-Academic Team and Most Valuable Player in Golf awards. He was co-president of the National Honor Society. He will attend the University of Maine, Orono, to study engineering.

Salutatorian was Julia Bard Plumb, daughter of Steve and Lynn Plumb of Nobleboro. She was active in the HIV Prevention Team, Drama Club, Environmental Club, Lincolnaires, Civil Rights Team, Cameo, Performing the Visual Arts Society, and Wild Thyme Contra-Dance Band.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and will attend Bates College to study music and foreign language.

Other top-ranked academic students were:

Ashlee Ann Benner, daughter of Larry and Karen Benner of Damariscotta. She will attend Stonehill College to study business management;

Marissa Lynn Benner, daughter of Stanley and Patricia Benner of Bristol. She will attend Susquehanna University to study communications;

Ashley Baker Cartier, daughter of Dean and Candace Cartier of Jefferson. She will attend Bates College to study neuroscience;

Sarah Mei-Shen Gregory, daughter of Robert and Sim Gregory of Newcastle. She will attend Wheaton College to study clarinet performance;

Megan Mary Hervochon, daughter of George and Kathy Hervochon of Damariscotta. She will attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis.;

Kathleen Elizabeth Keller, daughter of Thomas Keller of Newcastle. She will attend James Madison College to study pre-medicine;

Kristen Leigh Magnussen, daughter of Donald and Diane Magnussen of South Bristol. She will attend the University of Maine at Machias to study marine biology;

Holly Elizabeth Page, daughter of Phillip and Gail Page of Nobleboro. She will attend Bates College to study psychology;

Kathryn Jean Powers, daughter of Steve and Sue Powers of Jefferson. She will attend the University of New England to study physical therapy;

Mari Whitney Ropes, daughter of Karen Ropes of Newcastle and William Ropes of Round Pond. She will attend Northeastern University to study international business;

Julie Rigg Stewart, daughter of Margaret Atwood and Peter Stewart of Newcastle. She will attend George Washington University to study international affairs in the Elliot School;

Erin Leigh Stodder, daughter of Gayle Stodder of Alna and Russell Stodder III of Wiscasset. She will attend Wheaton College;

Heather Lynn Taylor, daughter of Douglas and Linda Taylor of Nobleboro. She will attend Bates College to study biology;

David Lewis Whitney III, son of David and Nancy Whitney of Nobleboro. He will attend the University of Maine, Orono, to study electrical engineering.
