Rood sweeps Sport 4 at Unity

UNITY – Willie Rood posted a sweep in the first doubleheader of auto racing action at Unity Raceway Friday and Saturday nights. Rood topped the Sport 4 division both nights.

Ed Drake took second Friday night, followed by John Crawford. On Saturday, Crawford was second with Steve Rackliff third.

Elder Maietta wins 100-lapper

At Scarborough, Mike Maietta Sr. of South Portland qualified on the pole, then held off a challenge by his son, Mike Maietta Jr. of South Portland, to win the Late Model Pro Series 100-lap green flag feature at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Saturday night.

The younger Maietta passed his father just past the halfway point, but the elder Maietta retook the lead after a caution bunched the field, then won with his son just inches off his bumper.

Tom Oliver of Scarborough took third, Bobby Gahan of Barrington, N.H., was fourth, and Robbie Harrison of Scarborough fifth.

Rodgers takes Late Model Series

At Scarborough Sunday, Bill Rodgers of Old Orchard Beach took the checkered flag in the NASCAR Late Model Pro Series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Alan Tardif of Lyman finished second as Steve Howard of Scarborough and Steve Berry of Gorham came across third and fourth, respectively. Gorham’s Dan McKeage took fifth.

Nickerson wins Limited feature

HERMON – Lloyd Nickerson led from the pole to win the Coca-Cola Limited Sportsman 50-lap feature Sunday afternoon at Speedway 95.

Five caution flags kept the challengers close, but Nickerson prevailed. Jake O’Brien of Jackson made the final before finishing second, Matt Gillie of East Holden was third, Rob Brideau of Milford fourth, and Justin Pickard of Ellsworth fifth.
