Four UMaine school track records set

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Four University of Maine track and field records were set and two more athletes qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships at the SeaRay Relays at the University of Tennessee Thursday through Saturday.

Katie Souviney of East Vassalboro set the mark in the heptathlon, racking up 4,705 points in seven events. On the first day of the event, she ran a 13.86-second time in the 100 hurdles, setting another school record and qualifying her for the NCAA regional meet.

Mike Lansing of Lovell finished fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 8:57.73, setting a school record and qualifying for the regional.

The fourth mark was set by the distance medley relay (800-400-1200-1600) team of Paul Rupprecht, Scott O’Connor, Donny Drake and Andy Caron, who finished with a time of 9:57.89. Elsewhere at the meet, Stephanie McCusker earned 10th in the triple jump (37-6), Hana Pelletier placed fifth in her heat of the 800 (2:11.99) and Tony Morgan was eighth in his hammer throw flight (155-7).

Other members of the teams competed at the University of New Hampshire Saturday.
