Bill Alfond named to U.S. Biathlon board

Bill Alfond, son of Waterville philanthropist Harold Alfond, has been added to the board of trustees for the U.S. Biathlon Association. The USBA, which has moved its headquarters to Portland, will hold the 2006 U.S. Olympic Trials in Fort Kent.

Larry Pugh and Bill Haggett, two business executives Maine ties, have also been added to the board.

Alfond is a minority owner of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox who was the former senior executive of the family-owned Dexter Shoe Company. He serves on the boards of Waterville’s Colby College and Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, Mass.
