Old Town’s Bergeron no-hits rival Red Riots

ORONO – Liz Bergeron pitched a no-hitter while striking out eight batters and walking four as the Old Town Indians beat the Orono Red Riots 7-2 in a mutual softball opener Tuesday.

Shaylee Moulton had two singles and an RBI, Amy McFalls hit a two-run single, Amanda Littlefield hit a double, and Monica Hussey added an RBI single for the Indians.

Sarah Pavento took the seven-hit loss for Orono.

At Blue Hill, Christy Moon hit an RBI double and Natasha Robbins added an RBI single in the sixth inning to lead George Stevens Academy to the win.

Moon hit a home run, double, and a single to drive in three runs for the Eagles. Chelsea Robbins had two singles with two RBIs and Robin Rioux doubled and singled.

Deanna Michaud hit a home run and two singles for Stearns of Millinocket. Casey Freeman hit a two-run homer in the third inning and Holly Franck had two singles and an RBI.

At East Millinocket, Jamie Milton pitched a two-hitter while striking out eight batters and walking none, and she had a double and a single at the plate to pace Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Kacy Foster and Lexi Thurlow each singled twice for the Howlers.

Jamie Cram doubles and Ashley Gleason singled for the only Schenck hits.

At Hermon, Terren Hall fired a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Golden Bucks to the win.

Hall also hit two singles and a double for one RBI. Katie Hurd singled twice and drove in two runs, while Jill Richards added two singles.

Ericka Joy singled for the Hawks’ only hit. Kristen Oakes fanned 10 and walked four in the loss.

At Brewer, the host Witches used three runs in the first and the six-hit pitching of Sarah DeFilipp and Jordan McLain to open the season with a win.

Anna Corey, Sarah Risser and Bekka York each had an RBI in the first inning. Corey had a double and a single for the Witches while McLain and York each had two hits.

Amanda Palmer homered in the fourth to account for Hampden’s run and added a single for the Broncos. Erika Veinote singled twice.

At Searsport, Shannon Pietra singled twice and scored twice to help Mattanawcook Academy to victory.

Cami Cousineau and Heather Gulesian each had two singles and an RBI for the Lynx of Lincoln.

Sheila Wilbur had two singles with an RBI for the Vikings and Theresa Cameron singled and scored a run.

At Hermon, Josh Kane hit two singles, driving in one run, to help pace the Hawks to a season-opening win.

Brian McGinley struck out seven while allowing five hits to earn the win. He also had an RBI single. Dave Wilder chipped in with an RBI single and sacrifice fly.

Robbie Pushard drove in the Golden Bucks only run with a single in the fifth inning. Bucksport loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but was unable to score.

At Blue Hill, Ross Gallagher had a two-run single and Collin Henry hit a solo home run as the GSA Eagles topped the Minutemen of Millinocket.

Blake Wessel added an RBI single for the Eagles and Lucas Marks doubled.

Stearns got one single apiece from Matt Wark, Ryan Bouchard, Jordan Burleigh, Steve Cyr, Ryan Beaulieu and Justin Pelkey.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Brian Hackett hit a double and two singles to drive in four runs and help lead Bangor past Nokomis of Newport.

Eric Anderson tripled and singled with four RBIs for the Rams. Jordan Heath had a double, a single and three RBIs. Brian Hackett pitched three hitless innings while striking out five batters.

Isaac Osborne broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning with a double to center field for Nokomis.

At Orono, Cory Estes shut down the Red Riots with a five-hit, six-strikeout and no-walk outing as the Indians earned the season-opening win.

Travis Shaw paced Old Town with two singles and two RBIs. Chad Dupuis hit three singles.

Orono’s Max Winter doubled and Mike Scott had an RBI single.

At East Millinocket, Nick Bishop and Aaron Waite pitched a combined three-hitter, allowing no earned runs and two walks while striking out six to help Schenck win.

Kyle Dempsey, Jesse Cram and Trevor Violette each hit a sacrifice fly for Schenck.

Matt Cummings hit an RBI single for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Guilford, Mike Burnett had a grand slam in the first inning and a double to knock in six runs and help lead Piscataquis to the win.

Richie Tompkins had two singles and two RBIs for Piscataquis and Wayne Clukey had a RBI single and three walks.

Nick Andrews had two doubles for Penquis of Milo and Justin Morrill singled twice.

Caleb Pelletier singled and scored a run for Foxcroft as David White and Justin Freeman each scored a run. Freeman allowed just one run on two hits.

Sean Snyder doubled and scored for John Bapst and Cody Andrews singled. Alex Yates knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. Mike Tardiff gave up no earned runs on three hits while fanning 14.

At Searsport, Matt Nickerson pitched five scoreless innings allowing just three hits and two walks while fanning nine to lead Searsport past Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Josh Nickerson had three singles and three RBIs for Searsport. Bobby Seger had two singles with an RBI and Tyson McHatten drove in three runs on a single.

Bryan Berry, Dylan Hanscom, Levi Slike and Corey Drost each singled for Mattanawcook.
