Korhonen and Eagles keep Katahdin at bay

STACYVILLE – Megan Korhonen scattered eight hits and aided her cause with three singles and two RBIs to lead Greater Houlton Christian Academy to a 7-6 softball victory over the Katahdin Cougars Tuesday.

Lacy Farrar scored the winning run in the seventh when she walked, stole second, advanced to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error.

Sara Charette, Lindsay Albert and Shelly Martin each singled twice for Katahdin with Albert and Charette each driving in a run.

Presque Isle 17, Caribou 2

At Caribou, winning pitcher Dani Grenier double, singled twice, and scored three runs to lead the visiting Wildcats to a season-opening victory.

Heather Richards added a double, single and three RBIs, while Meagan Pinette singled twice and scored three runs.

Makayla Gahagan and Ashley Filimonow each doubled and singled for Caribou.

At Dyer Brook, Audrey Charette tripled, singled twice and drove in a run for Southern Aroostook.

Amanda Charette had two doubles and three RBIs for the Warriors of Dyer Brook and Raya King had a double and two singles with an RBI.

Sara Brewer hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the fifth for Hodgdon and Amanda Scott had a triple and two singles to drive in two runs.

At Caribou, Chad Lavway hit a double and two singles to drive in three runs and help lead Presque Isle to the win.

Derrek Belanger doubled and singled to knock in a run for Presque Isle.

Anthony Adams hit a two-run homer for Caribou in the second inning and John Noyes doubled.

At Dyer Brook, Adam Anderson drove in four runs with a double and two singles to key Southern Aroostook’s 14-hit attack.

Travis Brooker tripled and singled and knocked in a run; Evan McGary doubled and singled and Drew Edwards singled twice and had two RBIs.

Zack Austin, Jeff Boutilier and Logan Edwards teamed up on a three-hitter for the Warriors, who scored 17 runs in the third inning.

Gordon Sloat and Nick Mazzaco had RBI singles for Hodgdon.

At Hermon, Josh Kane hit two singles, driving in one run, to help pace the Hawks to a season-opening win.

Brian McGinley struck out seven while allowing five hits to earn the win. He also had an RBI single. Dave Wilder chipped in with an RBI single and sacrifice fly.

Robbie Pushard drove in the Golden Bucks only run with a single in the fifth inning. Bucksport loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but was unable to score.

At Eastport, Cody Bulmer hit a bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning to help lead Shead to victory.

Derek Maloney had a triple and a single to knock in a run for the Tigers and Jacob Stanley hit three singles.

Garrett Getchell singled twice to drive in a run for Machias and Marcus Frutchey hit a triple.

Blake Wessel added an RBI single for George Stevens and Lucas Marks doubled.

Stearns got one single apiece from Matt Wark, Ryan Bouchard, Jordan Burleigh, Steve Cyr, Ryan Beaulieu and Justin Pelkey.

At Belfast, Eric Kendall’s two-run single sparked a three-run sixth-inning rally that snapped a 5-5 tie and gave Erskine Academy of South China its victory.

Alex Oliver’s sacrifice fly in the seventh provided some insurance.

Jody Jose had two singles for Erskine Academy while Josh Gallant had a two-run homer and RBI double for Belfast and Zac Carr doubled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Brian Hackett hit a double and two singles to drive in four runs and help lead Bangor past Nokomis of Newport.

Eric Anderson tripled and singled with four RBIs for the Rams. Jordan Heath had a double, a single and three RBIs. Brian Hackett pitched three hitless innings while striking out five batters.

Isaac Osborne broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning with a double to center field for Nokomis.

Marcus Maffucci doubled and singled with an RBI for the Trojans. Kyle Shea knocked in two runs on two singles and Matt Grover had two singles and an RBI.

Matt Homich, Andy Berry and Louden Jellison each hit an RBI single for Ellsworth.

Josh Nickerson hit three singles to drive in three runs for Searsport. Bobby Seger had two singles with an RBI and Tyson McHatten drove in three runs on a single.

Bryan Berry, Dylan Hanscom, Levi Slike and Corey Drost each singled for Mattanawcook.

At East Sullivan, Evan Alexander hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to push Sumner past Narraguagus of Harrington.

Alexander had two singles and two RBIs in the game for Sumner. Chris Cowperthwaite and Mason Young each had an RBI single.

Jeff Burditt earned the win by allowing only two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six.

Cory Burt doubled for Narraguagus.

Andrew Rogers powered the Windjammers with a three-run homer in the third inning and a single. Calen Erskine added an RBI double.
