EASTPORT – Terry Lux, principal of Shead High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2005.
Skylar Richardson, daughter of Judy Richardson and Jim Blankman of Eastport, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Maine to study studio art.
She is active in academics and athletics, served as president of her class, was a member of the National Honor Society, student senate, Maine Youth Voices and Shead’s drama club, The Mixed Nuts.
For community service, she has served as an intern at Eastport for Pride. She is a four-year member of the soccer, basketball and softball teams, for each of which she has served as captain, and a two-year member of the cross-country team. She received the Maine Women’s Engineering Award, the Maine Principal’s Award and the University of Maine Academic Scholars Award.
Michelle Kilby, daughter of Helen and Ronald Kilby of Edmunds, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2005. She will attend the University of Southern Maine for one year, then transfer to Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., to study business management and accounting.
She has spent her senior year in the DECLA Early College Program at the University of Maine at Machias, served as president of her class and secretary of the student senate and National Honor Society. She has been a member of the drama club, the WSHD Tiger-TV club, Maine Youth Voices, and the staff of The Shead Sentinel. She also served as manager of the baseball and boys varsity basketball teams. An active volunteer in her church and community, she has served on the Dennys River Fourth of July Committee and worked on Earth Day cleanups, Dennysville-Edmunds public suppers, Christmas projects and tsunami relief effort.
Her awards include the Seven Sisters Book Award from Mount Holyoke College and the Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizen Award. She has been Shead student of the month and was a winner of the Voice of Democracy public speaking competition.
First honor part is Derek M. Maloney, son of Bernadette and John Maloney of Perry. He will attend the University of Southern Maine to study engineering.
He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been active in athletics. He is a four-year member of the state championship golf team, and the soccer, basketball and baseball teams, all of which he has captained. He is a Downeast Athletic Conference All-Star in golf and soccer and was named to the State All-Star Team in soccer.
Second honor part is Tiffany M. Martinez, niece of Gary and Adele Moore of Pleasant Point. She will attend the University of Southern Maine to study criminology or science.
She has been active in student government, served as vice president and secretary of her class, and is a member of the student senate, currently serving as president. She has been a member of The Shead Sentinel student newspaper and yearbook staff. She is a four-year member of the soccer and basketball teams, a three-year member of the softball team, and a one-year member of the tennis team.
