LIMESTONE – Amber Palmer singled and doubled to drive in two runs as the Washburn softball team held off Limestone/MSSM for a 10-9 victory Saturday in high school action.

Amy Reed added two singles and an RBI for the Beavers.

Crystal Silva singled twice to bring in one run for the Eagles. Britany King, Lindsey Beaulieu, Meagan Pelletier and Kyle Mulherin each had two singles.

At Presque Isle, Heather Richards hit three singles to drive in two runs to help push Presque Isle to the 13-5 win over Mount Desert Island in the first game. The Trojans won the second game 5-2.

In the first game, Alisen Donovan singled three times to knock in a run for Presque Isle and Katie Moody had two singles with an RBI. Danielle Grenier struck out eight.

Stephanie Shuster singled, doubled, and tripled with an RBI for MDI.

In the second game, Sarah Ingalls had three singles and an RBI for MDI and Kendra Richards singled three times. Nia Megquier had nine strikeouts and no walks.

Dani Grenier had singled twice and struck out eight for Presque Isle.

Amarie Hussey hit a two-run single for the Patriots and Adrienne Ricci singled and had an RBI fielder’s choice.

Orono sweeps Caribou

At Orono, Chelsea Paul hit a two-run single in the fifth as the Red Riots rallied to beat the Vikings 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Orono went on to win the second game 7-3.

In the first game, Michelle Nickerson and Lindsey Colbath each added an RBI single for Orono. Sara Pavento had eight strikeouts in a four-hitter.

Allison Richards, Emily St. Peter, Christy Zbylut and Julia Gagnon each singled for Caribou.

In the second game, Orono’s Emily Balaban drove in four runs on a double and a single, while Nickerson had two singles and an RBI.

Richards led Caribou with two singles.

Katahdin sweeps DI-Stonington

At Deer Isle, Lindsay Albert hit a triple, double, and two singles to drive in five runs to lead Katahdin of Stacyville to the 18-10 win over Deer Isle-Stonington in the second game. Katahdin also won the first game 19-6.

In the first game, Chelsie Bates hit a three-run home run and two singles to drive in four runs for Katahdin and Roni Robinson had a two-run homer and two doubles with three RBIs. Brooke Smallwood singled, doubled, and tripled to drive in two runs and Kayla Stevens had a double and two singles with two RBIs.

Regyn Lawry doubled and singled with two RBI for DI-Stonington. Christina Fifield hit an RBI double and Whitney Haskell had two singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Jasmine Pellitier singled, doubled, and tripled to force in a run for Katahdin and Clarissa Gallagher doubled and singled with three RBIs.

Heather Brewer had three singles and a double with an RBI for DI-Stonington. Lawry doubled and singled to drive in two runs and Jonelle Robbins singled twice.

At Dyer Brook, Zach Austin drove in two runs with his homer in the first inning to start Southern Aroostook off with a lead.

Evan McGary added a two RBI double in the sixth. Adam Anderson struck out eight batters, allowing only three hits and walking one, along with his double. Evan Boutilier also singled and doubled.

Orono sweeps Caribou

At Orono, Max Winter hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and had three singles to drive in six runs and help push Orono to the 12-4 win over Caribou in the second game. Orono also won the first game 5-4.

In the first game, Ben Stout scored the winning run on a two-out error in the sixth inning for Orono. Travis Dunton hit a two-run home run and a single. Dustin Thomas doubled and singled to knock in a run and Travis Bryant had two singles and an RBI.

Jon Brothers allowed no earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Corey Dickerson hit a two-run single for Caribou and Ryan St. Peter doubled.

In the second game, Jon Brothers tripled and singled with two RBIs for Orono and Collin Bates had a two-run double.

Brad Campbell hit two singles for Caribou and Devin Hersey doubled.

MDI, Presque Isle split

At Presque Isle, senior lefthander Chad Lavway held the Mount Desert Island Trojans to one hit to give Presque Isle a 2-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader after righthander Andy Pooler pitched a two-hit gem to give the Trojans a 2-0 victory in the first game.

Lavway struck out 10 and walked one for the Wildcats in the second game and scored the only run he would need in the third on Derrek Belanger’s RBI single. Lavway had singled, stole second and advanced to third on a Tim Lyford sacrifice bunt.

Righty Sam Merrill was the hard-luck loser for MDI as he allowed only two hits and three walks. Andy Pooler reached Lavway for a third-inning single.

In the first game, Matt Grover and Jake Willis each singled twice to back Pooler, who walked only one batter. Grover and Dan Lyons each had an RBI single.

Tim Morrison and Spencer Wing each singled for the Wildcats while Danny Michaud was the hard-luck loser after scattering six hits, striking out seven and walking two.

At Houlton, Freshman Hunter Caron allowed just three hits and two walks and no earned runs while striking out five to lead Houlton to victory.

Caron and Jeff Lenentine both doubled and singled to drive in a run for Houlton. Harry Austin hit a two-run single and Aaron Fitzpatrick doubled and singled.

DI-Stonington sweeps Katahdin

At Deer Isle, freshman Collin Ciomei allowed just one run on four hits, two walks, and one hit-by-pitch while striking out seven to help lead Deer Isle-Stonington past Katahdin of Stacyville 5-1 in the first game. DI-Stonington also won the second game 9-2.

In the first game, Josh Eaton hit a two-run single for DI-Stonington and Nick Ciomei singled with two RBIs. Thomas Robbins added an RBI single.

Keith Anderson singled twice for Katahdin.

In the second game, Nick Ciomei tripled and singled to drive in two runs for DI-Stonington. Rob Brown had two singles and an RBI and Collin Ciomei added two singles.

Owen McCarthy and Burton Brayall each singled twice for Katahdin and Cam Cunningham hit an RBI double.

Mattanawcook sweeps Penobscot Valley

At Brewer, Drew Welch allowed just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven to help lead Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to the 13-1 win over Penobscot Valley of Howland in the first game. The Lynx also won the second game 10-9.

In the first game, Adam Long hit three singles to drive in two runs for Mattanawcook. Corey Drost had two singles with an RBI and Jason Murchison doubled.

Ryan Ware, Joe Gilley, Josh Ireland, and Corey each singled for Penobscot Valley.

In the second game, Adam Long was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning for Mattanawcook. Jason Murchison hit a three-run double to tie the game in the fifth inning. Drost doubled and singled to knock in two runs.

Jake Crosby and Ireland both had three singles and two RBIs for the Howlers and Dylan Thompson doubled.
