Piscataquis County commissioners to take meetings on road

DOVER-FOXCROFT – For the first time in history, the Piscataquis County commissioners will hold one meeting a month out in the communities they serve.

The panel’s June meeting will be held in Milo. The meeting will take place 8:30 a.m., June 7, at the municipal building.

“It gives folks who normally couldn’t make it to the meetings in Dover-Foxcroft a chance to attend,” County Manager Mike Henderson said this week.

Other meetings scheduled to date include July 5 in Abbot; Aug. 16 in Greenville; and Sept. 20 in Guilford.

Henderson, whose idea was embraced by the commissioners, said these sessions will provide an opportunity for residents to talk about problems specific to the areas where the meetings are scheduled.

The commissioners also will hold their routine bimonthly business meetings.

One such issue that could be a topic at the Milo meeting is an ordinance for barking dogs in the unorganized territories.

At their meeting on Tuesday, the commissioners were told that a Barnard resident inquired if the county had such an ordinance. It is not the first time residents in the unorganized territories have raised the issue, Henderson noted.

The commissioners directed Henderson to provide sample ordinances to the board for consideration at a future meeting.

Another issue discussed this week was the condition of the local road to Chesuncook. Because it is now mud season in that region, the commissioners voted to post the road to heavy traffic until June 15.
